VIN: SALLDVAB8AA308307
eBay's VIN field shows all zeros because this is a 1987 UK-built grey-market import and its VIN doesn't validate in US databases — the truck was never federalized for US sale, so there's no NHTSA record to match. The zeros are a platform workaround, not an attempt to hide anything. The VIN above matches the New York title exactly, and I'm happy to send photos of the title and the chassis stamping on request.
1987 Land Rover 90 — Turbodiesel, LHD, Documented Project
A genuine pre-Defender Ninety, built three years before Land Rover applied the Defender name to the line. Left-hand drive, original 2.5L 19J turbodiesel, manual gearbox, four-wheel drive, station wagon body with full tan leather. Built in Solihull, England and imported to the US as a grey-market vehicle. Clean New York title in my name, no liens, clean Carfax with no brands.
Condition — read this part.
The truck runs and drives. There are two videos in this listing showing it.
There is rust in the bulkhead and A-pillars, and it is the single biggest cost item any buyer will face. I'd rather state that plainly than have you find it yourself.
The body is mid-teardown: a vinyl wrap has been removed and the hood is in primer. Trim has been removed but every piece is present and inventoried — nothing was discarded. All seven seats are included: three-across front bench installed, four rear seats currently removed and stored in the cargo area.
The prior owner reported a power loss in 2022. A Land Rover specialist inspected the truck and found no reason to suspect compression loss, and it has run and driven since. No compression test has been performed — I'm telling you that rather than waiting to be asked.
Mileage and title notes.
Mileage is true mileage unknown. The odometer reads 24 miles; Carfax showed 126,566 in July 2016, so actual is realistically 130,000–150,000. The New York title lists the odometer as EXEMPT, vehicle over 10 years old. The title also lists fuel type as GAS — it is a diesel. That's a common DMV mis-code on grey-market imports, disclosed here so nobody is surprised at transfer. UK ownership history prior to import is unknown and undocumented.
Work done.
Prior owner completed a 2019–2020 mechanical refresh through Rovers North: reconditioned 2.5L turbodiesel injection pump rebuilt by Blue Ridge Diesel Injection in December 2020 (roughly $2,300 on that line alone), injectors, front axle and swivel rebuild kit, suspension bushings, U-joints, transfer box gasket, and five steel wheels. By me in 2026: new DieHard Gold 49H8 AGM battery, 900 CCA. A custom-fit cover made for this truck is included.
No engine or drivetrain swaps. The 19J turbodiesel is original to the truck and nothing has been modified away from stock.
Why I'm selling.
Early left-hand-drive Ninetys are getting hard to find, and most of what's left has been restomodded past recognition or hides worse than it shows. This one is the opposite — opened up, documented, disclosed down to the rust. I took it on as a project, got through teardown, and decided the finish work isn't mine to do. Selling exactly as it sits, priced as a project, paperwork and parts inventory intact.
Sold as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Located in Staten Island, New York. Inspection encouraged — ask me anything and you'll get a straight answer, including the parts that don't help me
